Mystery Mushroom

A friend sent this picture to me, and wondered what it was.

Does anyone know what it is?

Clue #1 :  Grows on the ground

Clue #2: A little puff of white dust (spores) that looks like smoke comes out when disturbed.

Hmmmm, I think I know what it is. Am I to assume that it’s quite wiggly? And perhaps designed to help trees hear better? :D

Good guess! This one won’t pass the “shake” test though. After I posted it, I realized that it looks like several mushrooms, so clues will be provided. Keep guessing…

Well is it perhaps the Sacrospera crassa-Crown Cup?

  4. Dean says:

    Thanks Joan!
Yes, you are correct. This interesting mushroom is related to the puff ball and sends out it’s spores in a little white puff that looks like smoke.
