Mystery Mushroom

We found this mushroom last fall while stumbling around the forest looking for edibles.

Does anyone out there know what this mushroom is?

Could it be a “Tremella mesenterica”, which grows in the cooler and damper times of the year on the dead branches of deciduous trees. It grows 2-4cm wide.

I think you are correct. Common name is Witch’s Butter. They are very interesting and have an unusual texture. I found it in the early fall and the weather was cool and moist. It was growing on a dead branch and was about the size you described. I usually put something in the picture for size reference.
Thank you for your response, and feel free to comment on the site.

I’m pretty sure if it reminded you of vomit then it is a slime mold. good luck figuring out which one it is.
